NOTE: Be sure to have your router setup before going on with this setup instruction below. Also be sure you have the firmware upgraded.
http://gvidvr.blogspot.com/p/router-setup.html

This info excludes the installation of a hard drive, if a hard drive is installed. The DVR will format the new hard drive at the time of booting up. Watch the video of the GVI AR-6040 doing so below.  It also shows the OSD being used and the playback option being used on AR-6080 via the GUI software.

Below is a video of the rest of OSD options using a USB mouse, if you do not have a mouse installed.  A video and simple instructions can be found at the bottom of this page.

The first thing to do is to get the system settings on the Date and time right. The easy way is to set your time zone and select time sync. If connected to the WWW it will adjust the date and time at the same time.  You can see this being done in the video above.

If you are not connect to the WWW, each time you make a change you will get a warning that you will need to format your hard drive afterwards.

You can use a USB mouse to get around the OSD menu as well. If you have a mouse with a wheel, moving it will just the selected option up or down. And best to update your firmware first, so you have the "Back" and "Exit" choices added to the menu screen. For info on firmware upgrade see the info here http://gvidvr.blogspot.com/p/firmware-update.html

If you don't update it you will have to select Exit via the remote or on the control panel of the DVR.

Change the "Admin" password and place it some where only you can locate. If you feel comfortable you can tape it to the inside of the DVR. See the reason way you don't what to loss this Password.http://gvidvr.blogspot.com/2014/03/password-reset-after-forgetting-password.html

A USB keyboard works on the DVR as well, but not required.

Give your DVR a name so you can recognize it later
Now setup User names these are the names of users that can view the DVR via the GUI software and App's.  Setup passwords for the user and then the level of privilege.  Level 1 thru 8 and disabled. 1 be the lowest privilege.
Now setup User authorization privileges.  The privileges of each category can be set to different levels depending on what level you want users to have to use that category.

Network setup is next, set the "Connection Type" I use LAN
Set your port number to 80, if you have another DVR be sure that it's not using it or another device on your network.  If another device is using it 90 will work for outside network comm. with the DVR.
Now setup the DVR IP address the easiest way is to set the DHCP to on and it will get the address info from your router.  The above video shows this being done.
Now setup Email if the wish to have the DVR to Email you of events.  I do not have any info on the setting for this.
Now set the DDNS settings to on.

Device setup
Set the Display setting to the level you wish to be display on the monitor and the display resolution.
NOTE: Changing the resolution will cause the DVR to reboot.

Recording and event settings instructions will be on the blog at a later date this month.  If you wish to be alerted when the info is available subscribing to the Blog's Youtube channel, will send a Email to you when new videos are uploaded.  Instructions on the play back and other functions, being created this month.

If you have followed the instructions for route setup and DVR setup you are ready to install the software.  Otherwise see the Home page for step one first.

Install the GVI CD into your PC and run the autoIPDiscoveryTool.exe  program.

You can copy the GVI autoIPDiscoveryTool.exe  program from the GVI CD onto your PC.  Program checks your GVI DVR is being seen on your network. It will give the model of your DVR, project name, the name of the DVR you gave it, the IP address, port number set, netmask number and the MAC id.

Click on "Device Search" and if your network is working correctly it will display the info of your DVR.

End of DVR setup steps, you are now ready to install the GUI software.  NOTE: GUI not useable with IE 10 or above at this time.  See GUI crash alert page for info. below.
