How to Install software

This page is for the AR-6*** GVI DVRs, for the GV-DVR016 , GV-W1615 or GV-RAZ please see the page for them.

Be sure to see "GVI GUI software Crash Alerts" for IE10 and above before going on
Note: GUI (Graph User Interface) not usable on IE 10 and above at this time.  IE8 and IE9 tested and working. on Windows XP and Windows 7.  IE10  and IE11 browsers causes GUI problems.

For Windows XP using IE8 follow the instructions in the user manual.  Located section 5.0 page 27 of the user manual. A video on installation is in the making and will be on the GVIDVR youtube channel when available .  Til then see below for what I found and used to get it loaded on my XP and Windows 7 Starter PCs.

For Windows 7 IE8 I followed the instruction from this video

How to enable activex controls and viewing IP Cameras

It's not the best visible version but I was able to freeze frame the video to see what was being changed.  I'll post the list of changes later.

Note: If you install the GUI before installing IE9 you will have to do this all over again.  I also installed the GUI software with the Internet disconnected and only used my in house network.  I did this to be sure that now outside influence from the internet did not interact with my PC.

This video helps explain more and more visible.

If you have followed the instructions for route setup and DVR setup you are ready to install the software.  Otherwise see the Home page for step one first.

Install the GVI CD into your PC and run the autoIPDiscoveryTool.exe  program.

You can copy the GVI autoIPDiscoveryTool.exe  program from the GVI CD onto your PC.  Program checks your GVI DVR is being seen on your network. It will give the model of your DVR, project name, the name of the DVR you gave it, the IP address, port number set, netmask number and the MAC id.

Click on "Device Search" and if your network is working correctly it will display the info of your DVR.  Click on the info displaying your DVR and it will open up your IE browser and start the installation of your DVR's onboard GUI software.

You may wish to disconnect your modem from the internet, by disconnecting the connection from outside.  (The cable or phone that connects to your modem) or connect directly to the DVR to install the software.

After it has finished successfully a "Log-in" window will show up to Log-in, enter the user name admin and password enter 1111 if you have not changed it.  It will then take you to the GUI DVR software display of the DVR.  You then need to change back all the IE setting changes you did to install the software.

Here's a sample of the software in use.
End of Step by step setup instructions.
If you wish to remote view your DVR see instructions on http://gvidvr.blogspot.com/p/remote-viewing-via-phone-app.html

Can you use a Windows 8.1 base tablet / phone to remote view the Ar-6*** DVRs?
Answer Not yet tested at this time, but a new tablet with Windows 8.1 has arrived and will be testing it out soon. The tablet I have does allow me to remote connect to a GV-DVR016 using the Remote Agent software. But have not tested the AR-6***'s on it yet.
